The International Dance Teachers Association is one of the largest examination boards in the world, covering many forms of dance examinations globally. The IDTA has over 7,000 members in 55 countries. The association originated in 1903, and celebrated its centenery in 2003. IDTA works in partnership with the Royal Academy of Dance.
The following objectives are maintained by the the IDTA:
- To promote knowledge and foster the art of dance in all its forms.
- To consult.
- To maintain and improve teaching standards.
- To offer a comprehensive range of professional qualifications in all dance genres.
- To provide and maintain syllabi and technique in all dance genres to train dance for the profession.
The IDTA provides students with training opportunities in a wide range of dance disciplines, offering examinations for awards and certificates. It also awards dance teaching qualifications through a certfication program, with three levels of qualifications: Associate, Licentiate and Fellowship. The IDTA is also active in competitive dancing, organizing numerous competitions, dance festivals and championships. The IDTA presents the annual Carl Alan Awards, a highly regarded honor within the dance community. IDTA also produces the monthly Dance International Magazine, which includes important news for dance teachers.
IDTA Dance Style :
The IDTA is divided into two specific branches, "Theatre Dance" and "Ballroom Dance," each covering a wide of dance styles. The IDTA offers the following dance subjects:

- Tap
- Theatre Craft
- Ballroom - Foxtrot, Quickstep, Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz Freestyle
- Latin - Argentine Tango, Cha Cha, Jive, Mambo, Merengue, Paso Doble, Rumba, Salsa, Samba
- Musical Theatre
- Sequence
